South Australia’s innovative economy will be on show as it partners with the Australian Government to participate at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
Over 150 nations will participate in the Expo, with 28 million visitors expected to attend during the event which will run from April to October 2025.
South Australia will participate in a ‘Team Australia’ showcase that will support commercial opportunities for business, highlighting the strengths of the state’s key growth sectors, including renewables, health biotech, food, wine and agribusiness, space and tourism.
The theme for Expo 2025 is ‘Designing Future Society for our Lives’, with sub-themes of ‘Saving Lives’, ‘Empowering Lives’ and ‘Connecting Lives’.
As a gold partner, the South Australian Government has committed $1 million to building upon the importance of the strategic relationship between South Australia and Japan. South Australia’s partnership with the region is based on significant trade and investment links, strong defence and security ties and a deep affinity between the regions.
The Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement has been in force since 2015 and provides valuable access into the region for South Australian exporters and supports two-way investment opportunities.
Japan is South Australia’s eighth largest export market, with merchandise exports to Japan valued at $629 million to the year ending November 2023.
As part of Expo 2025, the Department for Trade and Investment will conduct multiple trade visits to Osaka over the course of the event. Further details will be available at www.dti.sa.gov.au closer to Expo 2025.
