New grant program launched to support SA exporters

A new grant program has been launched today by the State Government to assist small to medium South Australian businesses to enter international markets.

The South Australia Export Accelerator (SAEA) grant replaces the former Export Partnership Program and is delivered by the International Trade team within the Department for Trade, Tourism and Investment.

The SAEA will assist businesses to participate in international trade shows and business missions, produce marketing collateral, conduct market research, e-commerce development, export training and consultation and contribute to travel and accommodation costs.

The new program will continue to provide an avenue for assistance if and when businesses like LEVolution decide to take their products to new markets. This is a new feature of the program and will continue to help, even after Federal assistance is exhausted.

The program has three components aimed at helping South Australian export-ready companies to enter new international markets and to create jobs for South Australians:

Emerging Exporter – Grants of up to $5,000 are available to South Australian businesses that are exporting for the first time, on a competitive 1:1 matched funding basis;

Export Accelerator – Grants of up to $30,000 are available to help fund business expansion that will create multiple direct ongoing jobs, on a competitive 1:1 matched funding basis;

New Market Entry – Grants up to $15,000 are available to help fund business expansion per each new international market, on a competitive 1:1 matched funding basis. Exporters can continue to access these grants as long as they are seeking sales in brand new markets.

The Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, the Honourable David Ridgway, said the new grant funding program, an election commitment of the Marshall Liberal Government, would assist South Australian businesses to start exporting, or grow their exports.

“The State Government wants to assist South Australian businesses to expand, to enter new international markets and to grow their workforce, as well as enhancing our economic prosperity by creating pathways for local companies to generate two-way trade opportunities,” said Minister Ridgway.

“The grants available will assist businesses operating and producing high quality products and services right here in South Australia and taking our State to the world.”

South Australian businesses looking to apply for one of the three grants on offer, can do so by visiting www.dtti.sa.gov.au/saea and submitting an online application. The first funding round of grant applications for the South Australia Export Accelerator will close on Friday 21 September 2018.

LEVOlution Background
LEVOlution (EVO Manufacturing) is a small business that has developed a product for tilers and DIY enthusiasts to assist with laying all types of tiles for commercial and domestic jobs. Australian-owned and made, LEVOlution is a tile spacer and levelling system within one product that eliminates lippage, aligns tiles and keeps them in place whilst the adhesive sets, resulting in a quality tiling job.

The company has grown throughout Australia with the support of Australia’s largest tile retailer, Beaumont Tiles. LEVOlution has also taken advantage of supporting Barkuma to package their product and other local businesses like Visi, Evo Plastics and Presimax.

The company has been supported by the TradeStart program, managed by Austrade in partnership with the Department for Trade, Tourism and Investment, for the past few years, and are now distributing their product in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.

“The TradeStart program was a massive support and one of the main reasons behind our current success in the UAE,” said Enzo Nudo, Managing Director at LEVOlution.

“Austrade provided a great insight into the local economy before visiting, which allowed us to be well prepared with our product pitch and strategy.

“Austrade also provided great introductions and support to government and private sector contacts which were related to our product. The combination of these two services, we believe, is the reason why we had the success we have had from our first trip to the Middle East.

“They are also providing continuing support with our efforts in the UAE. Without the assistance of export grants and TradeStart we could not have made the developments we did within the same timeframes.”
