Datacom opens new customer care centre in Adelaide’s north

A new Australian Government service centre within Datacom’s customer care and IT Hub in Modbury, South Australia, was officially opened today by the Federal Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Alan Tudge and South Australia’s Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment David Ridgway.

The service centre opening is part of today’s launch of global IT Services company Datacom’s facility in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. The Australian Government service will service local and overseas callers about visa, citizenship and travel or trade enquiries.

Datacom’s new hub has already created over 400 new jobs and training opportunities for South Australians, around 250 of these jobs are supporting Home Affairs services.

Within the service centre, Home Affairs is expected to receive approximately 1.5 million basic enquiries per year. This transition will enable Home Affairs staff to focus on high-value, complex decision-making across immigration, citizenship and trade facilitation programs.

Minister Tudge said the Government is committed to supporting Australian jobs and the revival of South Australia’s economy.

“We are committed to returning work currently delivered overseas back to Australian shores and delivering job opportunities to South Australians,” Mr Tudge said.

“The new arrangements have already delivered improvement in call wait times, allowing clients to access the information they need more quickly and get on with running their businesses or planning their travel to Australia.”

Minister Ridgway said Datacom’s partnership with TAFE SA, Workskil Australia, and SYC is providing important employment and training opportunities which facilitate a training-to-job pathway into employment for the local community.

“Datacom’s new customer care and IT Hub in Adelaide’s north-east will secure future job growth in the IT and services sector, while providing an increasingly contemporary customer experience to Home Affairs’ clients right across the world.”

The South Australian Government’s investment team has worked closely with Datacom to develop and plan their expansion into South Australia, facilitating cross-government relationships and supporting the company in the evaluation of potential sites.
