In March 2016, South Australian firm Micromet signed a joint venture agreement with Chinese company Dadongwu to manufacture equipment for treating wastewater and sell it in the Chinese market. Micromet was part of the Premier’s delegation to China in 2015 and the relationship between the two companies was facilitated by the Government of South Australia and BioInnovation SA.
Micromet has developed new electrolysis technology to remove pollutants from contaminated water such as sewage, grey water and industrial effluents. This technology can be built into trailers or shipping containers for easy transport and retrofitting to existing water treatment plants.
Under the joint venture, $2 million will be invested to establish manufacturing facilities for the equipment in Adelaide for the Chinese market. Micromet expects to initially employ 75 people associated with its new manufacturing facility with projections for growth in those numbers.
